I am trying to install a PCMCIA 32-bit CardBus fast ethernet card onto my older laptop, I have been looking around to find a solution and I have a general idea of what "might" be wrong but after trying to edit my config.sys I find out there is nothing there, not one thing...I just installed windows Xp on it, and I have reinstalled the card a bunch of times but information won't go from the card to the computer. The lights are on and blinking and the activity light is blinking...but can't get online...If I can get any help with any of the problmes would be great, I did find that 32 bit cards won't work with older systems but I am not sure if mine is that old or not, Dell INSPIRON 5000.

Because there is no dos in xp it doesn't use the autoexec.bat, the config.sys or the win.ini files.

PCMCIA 32-bit CardBus fast ethernet card may not be compatible with your laptop.

The correct card to be used with Dell Inspiration 500 is Dell 10/100 LAN Fast Ethernet PC Card (go here http://r2electronics.com/productdetail.aspx?prodid=168&catid=0)
