having problems getting my computer to boot up...step by step here's what happens:
1. After turning on the CPU, the black Microsoft Windows XP professional screen comes on
2. This is followed by the blue screen Microsoft Windows XP- "Windows is starting up..."
3. After a few moments, the screen suddenly goes black, then directly followed by a blue screen with the following message-
STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status o
f 0x80000007 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.I have tried every option on the advanced start-up screen. Safe mode, restarting to last successful startup point, debugging, etc...the end result is always the exact same.
any help would GREATLY be appreciated
thanks

This might work for you Tino704:
Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. (Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order).
When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below ...
This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer:
.To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.
.To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.
.To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.
PRESS ENTER to start the Windows Setup.
To Repair Install, press ENTER
DO NOT CHOOSE "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R", (you Do Not want to load Recovery Console).
Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations. Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. (If Repair is not one of the options just end setup – I’m out of suggestions). After the reboot, Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.

thanks for the reply...
however, i don't have the cd for windows. would borrowing the cd from someone else also install on my computer? or is it only set for that one cpu?

That I don't know. Sorry. If your XP is an OEM install you can most likely order a set of recovery disks for your system from Dell for about $20.00 or so. I have done that before with Gateway. Maybe someone else will respond with a better answer for you. Good Luck!

You're right there, check all the stuff you got with your Dell.
There should be approx. 3 to 4 CDs: one of them contains the "OS reinstallation"
If not, your outta luck.

Yes If you have a friend that has a Windows XP Professional OEM disk that will work with the repair help in Response #1.
Keep in mind that If the OEM CD is either RTM or SP1 and you have SP2 on your Dell, you will need to reinstall the SP2 and newer updates.
