I keep encountering this obnoxious error on my laptop: API Error Code 1122 - "Drive not accessible. No ID Address Mark Found on Floppy Disk." I've used the XP Professional for some months now without problem, and I've been real happy with the laptop - no problems that weren't easy to deal with - but now I can't format, read or write floppies, and I can't find a good reason for it. All services and drivers work correctly, the Device Mgr. is happy and the hardware checks OK, but I can't use the A:\ drive. I've tried reinstalling the OS with the original disks, and I'm still no go.
The error has nothing to do with the following:
1. utilizing quick format on a blank disk instead of full. I can't read old disks that could be read previous to error 1122, and I can't format at all - quick or otherwise - on new disks or old.
2. I can't use Windows Advanced Options Menu, Last Known Good Configuration, because I reinstalled the OS since encountering the error - now I have NO Last Known Good Configurations on file (lovely, huh?)
3. It has nothing to do with the floppy's write protect or format - in fact, the floppies themselves are almost incidental to the problem. I suspect the system can't detect the ID Address Mark due to a software error someplace, not because the ID Address Mark isn't on the diskette, nor because the drive is unable to detect it. The drive seems to work fine - it's definitely looking at the diskette. It's only a few months old, so hardware seems like an odd place to look, but I've nonetheless checked all the signals being received, and the drive is definitely reacting to the correct inputs just as it's supposed to. I guess it might still need to be replaced. I've looked around though, and this same error seems to occur a lot on Windows XP - has anybody else noticed anything similar?
4. The boot-up check says the drive is fine.
5. Floppy disk controller and drivers are okay.
6. I'm still without a clue.ANY ASSISTANCE, IDEAS, etc., can only help - please drop me a quick email. TKS in advance -- James Carlson jtcarl@yahoo.com

Sounds to me like you've got a physical problem with the floppy drive. If nothing is showing up in the Event Viewer logs and everything else seems to be running fine, maybe visit the manufacturer's website and see if there's some oddball firmware update for the floppy drive.
But I'd try to get a different physical floppy drive and see if that's the problem...
