in xp there is only wallpaper on screen, no icons or toolbars etc. on technet many ppl have same question. if you go to task manager and "New Task" type in "explorer", they come back. this is all i can find on net . if someone can find out why plz mail me at "gregh77@hotmail.com" also happening on win98 system as well.

Is this on startup? When this occurs does explorer appear in task manager under processes. If not, try booting in safe mode, - is explorer running now? Find your PROGMAN.INI in document and settings.
