Hi,
When I turn on my desktop there are no icons or start buttons on the
screen, just the wallpaper background. When I press Ctrl-Alt-Delete, it
says the task manager is locked.I figured it's a virus based on what my sister told me about what happened
when my brother was using it - basically a bunch of pop-ups,
maleware/virus...he kept turning it on and off, but she said the pop-ups
kept coming up.Now, when I turn it on, everything seemed ok, it seemed to start up fine, but when it got to the desktop screen there was nothing but wallpaper.
I looked it up to see if there was anything I could do, but every advice
online says that they could either access the start menu and "run" an .exe
file, or access the task manager. I can't do either one! "Last known good
configuration" didn't work. I tried to go to "safe mode" and still
nothing. And "safe mode with command prompt" didn't let me type more than
one letter in the prompt. My problem: no desktop icons, locked task manager, no right-click, I can't
do anything. Is there a way to fix this without having to reboot the entire system and losing all my files???
I'd appreciate any sort of help

Try to download and run the Antivir Personal edition antivirus from
http://www.free-av.com/en/download/...It's free and usually able to detect a lot more Virus and spy ware than others.

Thanks, but I'm using a different computer right now. My problem is that I can't do anything with my desktop other than turn it on.

It might be worth seeing if you can open a run box with the keyboard short cut <winkey>+<r>.
If you can there may be a few things you can do....
