I went to reboot xp home and there is no icons or task bar no hot keys work when i try to log in as administrator it says invald files in safe mode it does the same thing tryed to repair though the xp disk and it locks up norton recovery has said nothing has anyone have a solution????

i tried that and it does not work says the old windows based program cannot run in dos .. i had to use a 98 boot disk because it will not load safe mode commanf promt only it keeps locking up... am i looking at a virus or what i do not want to format anyone that can help i would really appreciate it scott
