No icons & no taskbar on desktop!

Hi! My son has a problem and that is,that suddenly,he does not have any icons and no taskbar on his desktop.He only has his wallpaper.My question is.how can he get his icons back and taskbar or does he has a virus?If so,how can he get rid of it? Thanks in advance for your input! Matthew.

Matthew, If you go to the top right of this page and type in: no desktop and taskbar then click the Go Search button you'll find links with just about every possible cause and solution. This question has been asked many, many, many times.

Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manger On the processes Tab, end explorer.exe if it is listed. File menu > New Task > explorer.exe

right click desktop arrange icons by tick show desktop icons this should bring back icons
is the taskbar hidden. ie does it come back if you move your mouse to the bottom of the screen? if so right click it when it appears and untick autohide the taskbar
