no desktop icons - userinit error

i start windows and after loging in to administrator i get a 'userinit error' and cannot get on to my desktop. previously i loaded explorer.exe from task manager but after a few times of doing this i started my pc and then couldnt get on to task manager! so now i have no desktop and no task manager, just my wallpaper in the background. i have tried running in safe mode but i cannot resolve this problem. Please help, thanx in advance.
