No Compressed Old Files in Registry

Specs: Windows XP Pro, 20GB
The Microsoft "Fix it"for Cleanup disk stops responding, removes Compressed Old Files as an option on cleanup and also removes the key in the Registry! I would like to have it back in the registry or find another way to clean old files, without a complete System Restore.

Maybe SFC is what you want.

Click Start and then click Run.
In the Open box, copy & paste > sfc /scannow, and then click OK. Note that you may be prompted to insert the Windows XP installation CD-ROM.
