Hello Everyone! After searching endlessly for a fix, I finally came across something at XP-erience.org forum. This fix worked for me after a reboot.
Problem: NO ACCESS to CD-ROMS even though they were detected in the device manager (one of my drives was code yellow as well)
Solution:
"This problem is caused by an association created in the system registry between these specific Adaptec driverfiles and the CD file system drivers for Windows 2000. If the Adaptec driver files are renamed or removed, then the system will loose access to any CD drive (CD ROM, CD
recorder, or DVD).1. Go to the RUN line and type in Regedt32 and press Enter.
2. Go to the following registry locations and delete the
key values for UPPERFILTERS and LOWERFILTERS: (Do NOT
delete the entire 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BBFC1-08002BE10318 key)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Cl
ass\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BB FC1-08002BE10318}
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\Cl
ass\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BB FC1-08002BE10318}
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro
l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11C E-BFC1-08002BE10318}
4. Close out of Regedt32.exe and reboot the computer.
5. You should have access to your CDROM drives after reboot."Hope this helps everyone with similar probs.

Howdy, Folks. Just some suggestions. First, use the INFORMATION POSTED ABOVE AT YOUR OWN RISK! Now before you make any changes to the registry either back it up or create a system restore point. You make and Goof up in the registry things can go south real quick. Once in the registry click on Click on File and then Export, make sure you place a dot in the ALL SECTION and save it. Just be safe folks so you won't be sorry and a thanks to cronikos for posting the above information and folks, let us know if it works.
Thank You,
