Right click your Start Button - Left click Explore - At the top click Folders
to open up the left column - Under Owner look for and click Favorites -
Click - Internet Explorer
At the top - View Tab - Check mark for list - On your right should be a list
of your Favorites. If their not their maybe they were wiped out when you
Installed IE 8
If they are their these links will work.
Reply back so we will know.

I'm not sure whether you mean you have a Favorites button which is empty or whether you have no facility at all. Normally Favorites get carried over when you update to IE8 - if they have gone there is no quick way to restore them.

On mine, in IE there is a box marked Favorites with a yellow star (top left). I find this easier to use than the alternative below.

An alternative is to press Alt key when in IE. You will then temporarily add at the top:

File, Edit, View, "Favorites", Tools, Help

If you want this permanent, right click a blank space in the top bars and put a tick in "menu bar".

Please come back and let us know how you got on.

Find a blank area below the address bar in IE and right click it. You should see this list:

Menu bar
Favorites Bar
Compatibility View Button
Command Bar
Staus Bar
Lock the Toolbars

What you do with these options is up to you but for the time being, first ensure "Lock the Toolbars" is unchecked. Next ensure that "Menu Bar" and "Favorites Bar" are checked. See if that helps - if so you should then be able to lock the toolbars if you wish.

Please come back and let us know the outcome.

Hello Derek........I went a bit backwards with my sinus it's to damp & cold.
But I thank you for the help so far ..........BUT there's that BUT again, the mouse does not allow me to click on the right side when I 'm in ie8 .also the words that are normally at the top IE; file ,edit view ,favoriates etc are not there at the top of the browser.the best that iI seem able to do is go to my desktop click the icon "MY COMPUTER " .........Do you think that perhaps the google toolbar is in conflict
and is causing the problem ?what if I remove both the yahoo and the google toolbars ?then just re-install yahoo ?or Google ?the pc will not let me download a new version of ie 8 which I thought would be the easy way but no luck .if you find some time for this let me know .
thanks again

Some very unusual symptoms so I'm at a bit of a loss on this one.

Sure, no harm uninstalling the toolbars just to prove the point. They can always be re-installed sometime.

A few tips here, maybe IE repair if it comes to it:

The other possibility is to revert back to IE7 reboot then download and install IE8 again and hope it does better. See the XP section here:

Not sure what more to suggest. Only thing I would say is try to get things right (including Favorites) without toolbars first - by whatever method. I doubt it will allow IE8 to be re-installed unless your first revert back to IE7, hopefully you won't need to do that.

When you think everything else is OK then try the toolbars and cross fingers and toes LOL.

Please come back and let us know the outcome.

Thanks again ,Derek ,you're a good bring you up to date after much thought I came to the conclusion that with only 30 days left till the end, it would be best to forget IE* so I downloaded Firefox & SeaMonkey browsers then I deleted the IE* icon from the desktop and now it is somewhere in this haunted pc .I as a rule do not give up but again with so little time left 4 weeks ,why bother .Well Der4ek keep on keeping on you do good work !

Thanks for the update.

Can I be cheeky and suggest you edit out your email address on here because if it's left on the net in open text the spammers engines will pick it up and you'll get junk mail forever - unless you are already in that situation.

Please come back and let us know the outcome.

Hi guys! This just happened to me tonight and the curses towards MS were flying! Having Googled AND Binged myself into frustration, upgrading from IE8 to IE9 (with no changes at all), i found the cause.

Just a little detail on what my symptoms were... When trying to view my bookmarks (in any manner) they weren't there. Now when going to the location of my "Favorites" folder under the user profile, my favorites folder, as well as my 200 or so favorites, were screaming "we're here, we're here!"

Here's what i found (and am a little embarassed it took so long to find it)... For some odd reason, the folder/links became marked as "hidden". I have no idea how, and figure it may have been something errant in a not so nice web page. At any rate, unchecking "hidden" then allows the individual bookmark to show up where it should in IE.

In my case, all 200 were marked hidden!!! In that case, simply rt click on your favorites folder\Properties\General and uncheck Hidden. If it isn't checked there (as mine wasn't), but the properties for your links are, go back and CHECK hidden for the Favorites folder, apply the change, uncheck it, and apply again.

Remember... in order to "see" hidden folders, open (My)Computer\Tools\Folder Options\View and click "Show hidden file, folders and drives".

I can't help with any of the other odd problems noted in the thread above, but hopefully this will help anyone else who stumbles in with this little problem. Good Luck! ; )
