It would help if we knew which part it was that allowed it to boot again. Do all of the fans come on? Check the power supply one as well.

Also try only booting with the minimum amount of hardware. This includes disconnecting the hard drive and optical drives as well as floppy drive. Check for any loose wires or wires that look unreliable i.e. missing sleeving or corroded connections.

If you cannot get the Single BEEP when you turn on the ATX On|Off switch on the PSU and no fans are seen/heard, any of the following can be defective/damaged:
PSU
CPU
Motherboard

At this stage try to disconnect the Power supply and Data cables of HDD/FDD/CDD leaving RAM and Video.

This is to rule out CPU and MoBo from the list by trying to elicit a Beep code or "No system Disk Error" on screen

If no beep or no error message , but fans are seen spinning all 3 (PSU,CPU,MoBO) are suspects.

Try a Known Good PSU and if that works you have a Defective PSU.

If that fails you have major issues.

Further testing depends upon availability of suitable known good MoBo to test CPU and make the differential diagnosis.

Yep sounds like the only way to do it now is to try replacement parts or get some advice on repairs from a local techie shop.

I would try to run without optical drives first(cd and dvd drives).
I have seen cd drives gone bad lately prevent any signs of bootup and no reaction to power button, and this is in his description.
