i'm helping my friend fix his computer because it would only go to the windows loading screen.
so i used his dell xp recovery disks but its an HP pavilion dv2000 i tried using my hp recovery diks but they would not work.

anyways used his disks and recovered xp but i have no drivers to get onto the internet,no mixer drivers for audio or anything. i have no icons on the desktop, so i used a boot and kill CD, after that reinstalled XP from same disks and same thing.

anyone have any ideas?

Restoring from a Dell Reinstallation CD isn't the best way to do this, as the hardware would be almost certainly completely different.

You have two different issues. Make sure that the "Show Desktop icons" is set. As for the other issues, go to HP's website and see if you can download the drivers you need.

I'd recommend checking into obtaining a Restore/Reinstallation CD from them as well. Is it possible there is a Hidden Recovery Partition on this machine?

Of course. Or, you can use a CD/DVD/Flash drive.

If you can't find the drivers, use Everest Home which tells you everything you need to know about your computer.
