I know you guys hate repeat posts but I checked and couldnt find the answer to our problem; My friend has just installed windows xp,he had 98. The problem is; After the install of xp,he no longer gets any sound.he has sound blaster creative audio sound card(Not onbaord). he went into device manger,checked for any discrepancies and found none. Which leads us to believe its just an xp driver he needs.The problem is,we are not sure which model he has.he got the computer in 2000 from Gateway,it came with the sound blaster creative audio sound card. We went to the xp audio driver download site http://www.windowsxp-drivers.com/companies/19/258.htm But we are just not sure what driver to get. If anyone knows which one we need,please submit.We would be very greatful. Thanks for looking out. Peace(:

Get BALARC or AIDA and they will detect and give you a report of the exact hardware that is on his computer. You can use the Crucial Memory Ad at the top of this page. They have belarc available for downloading on their website.

some hardware is incompatible in windows xp. try to update the driver using the driver that came in your motherboard or search the driver.

try going device manager, uninstall sound devices, reboot and see if xp will reload the basic driver, then try windows update for the updated driver.
