umm i dont know the model number but on the booklet it says for models dctr dhp dhs dhm whl dct whm mtc2 dmc dcsm dcne........also what is a service tag? sorry im really bad at comp. stuff

Service tag is a sticker on the computer itself. The model # should be plastered on the outside somewhere. Is it a desktop or laptop?

You have a Dimension 3000 which has warranty valid until 11/30/05.
The audio driver is located here:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&releaseid=R94481&SystemID=DIM_CEL_3000&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=2430&devlib=0&typecnt=1&vercnt=3&formatcnt=1&fileid=122481
It is a SoundMax Audio Chip. Be sure the sound is turned on in your BIOS/setup (F2 while booting), then download the driver, and you should be good.
If there are problems this doesn't solve, call DELL while it is still under warranty.

Well,
I guess GXI Man told you everything that needs to be done... I am sure his steps will work out... And, by the way GXI Man posted the message i guess he works for Dell Tech Support... Good Luck with your issue IdoAllMyStunts77, i am sure it should be resolved

No, I don't work for Dell, but I have a lot of experience in working on/refurbing things from a GX1 up to a GX150, and have 10 or so myself. Very sturdy machines, those old Optiplexes.
Dimensions are not quite the caliber, but the are good at what they do.
Some Dell characteristics are universal, evenn between model lines. I don't know that I would necessarily want a new one, this is the vintage for me, and best of all they are ALL Linux compatible.

k it didnt work when i downloaded it and ran it. when it started to unzip it said this self extracting zip file is part of a multidisk zip file. please insert the last disk of the set.. and if you click ok it says an error accoured while unzipping one of more files were not succesfully unzipped the error code is 110...........any ideas guys??

When you download it and start the sequence it asks if you want to save or run. You must choose run to get the process going. Uninstall what you have done so far.
In the BIOS, the audio selection is ON, correct?
When you reboot then in Device manager (in Control Panel) what does it show next to Audio when you expand it? A yellow exclamation point or what?

how do you uninstall what youve done??? aslo i noticed that when it finished downloading that the file size was only 6.2 mb when it said it was 7 mb at the download scree. i got kicked off in the middle of the download so i dunno if that has something to do with it. i deleted what i did and now when i try to download it again it says its only 36kb, and when i try to run it. it says it cant cuz its not a valid win32 application. please help:-(

Well Dude,
Seems like your download was not complete itself... Just Try Re Downloading it and see if that helps... Also before doing that just check the following:
1) Right Click on My Computer and click on Properties...
2) Go to Hardware Tab and Click on Device Manager... And check if there are any Yellow Question Marks or Exclamation marks on any of the devices...If no then do the following:
1) Click on Start and go to Control Pannel...
2) Open Sound and Audio Devices, In there go to the Audio Tab.
3) Check the default audio device and see whats in there... Try changing it to Soundmax if you have an option and see if that helps...Let us know if it worked,
Nick
