Hi, I'd greatly appreciate help with this one. I was installing an music editing software when my pc restarted because of a power surge. This was when all the problems started from what I can best remember.
I unistalled and reinstalled both my C-Media High Definition Audio Device and soemthing called a Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device from the device manager and updated their drivers but to no avail. There are no conflicts that show between these two devices from the Device Manager but there's "No Audio Device" recognized under the Sounds and Audio Devices tab.
When I try to play an audio file, up pops this message from WMP "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."
Also, there is no volume control that shows up on the taskbar. When i try to pull up Volume Control under the C-Media 3D Audio Coniguration, I get this message "Volume Control -
There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware. This program will now close."
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks again

Ah I forgot to mention that stupidly did not keep on top of creating system restore points. So that just adds more to the problem there.
