no active partition

Specs: Windows XP
i merge two partition with partition magic. I didn't that should not merge partition that with OS. After merge, message appear " no active partition" and i agree.
After that, i cannot boot my camputer.
I try to format again but cannot " this disk does not contain a window XP-compatible partition"
please help me

If you have a floppy drive you can boot to a Win98 boot floppy and run fdisk to set the active partition. There are other methods but the goal is the same.

i do not have floppy drive and a also do not have win 98.

I know you don't run Win98, I see what are using. Fdisk can set an active partition on your WinXP FAT32 or NTFS drive.

Try the utility linked below. It is for CD. I have not used it but the information states it can set an active partition. You will need a computer with a burner and Roxio or Nero.

How old is your computer?? If it is fairly new then the hard drive may be SATA

If you would like a tool that can partition your hard disk, then I would reccomend GPARTED. Make sure to select an appropriate file system (FAT32 or NTFS) as none of the others will be compatible with windows XP

I finally manage to settle this problem by using external floppy drive and run fdisk to set the active partition again. Thank you very much

Good to hear you got it fixed.
