My dad has got a Nikon coolpix 4500 digital camera and he used to be able to connect it to the pc and turn the camera on and it would transfer the pictures from the cam to the pc straight away. But for some reason the pc doesnt regonise it any more and when I go into nikon view 5 and click transfer pics it says that the cf card in the camera is not inserted. So can someone please help

have you been using the camera as a web camera too? If so, the camera needs to be configured back to disc mode instead of the webcam mode.
Alternatively check the memory card insertion to see if its properly aligned.

hope this helps

hmm, there should be a setting in one of the options menus on your camera, which would reconfigure the cam as a regular camera instead of a web cam

you could go to setup and check options. And if you have been recently shooting videos using this camera, all you have to do is to change the config back to that of a still camera....:-)....am I repeating what Alec said??...lol

Try these things:-

1. Try using a different USB or Firewire Port on your computer to connect the camera

2. Try connecting the camera to the computer port first, and turning it on...and then starting the computer.

3. If there is a software CD along with the camera then the software should be installed first. ( By the way what OS are you working on?)

4. You could also try deleting the first camera from yr computer ( by clicking on the 'camera/scanner icon)..and deleting the other camera.

good luck

3. There is a disc called nikon view 5 it has 3 differnt drivers on but the one i need doesnt work. (i'm on XP home)

4.I did delete it when I wanted to use this cam again.

you could go the the Nikon support and dowmloads site and try to get the driver file. It is a very good idea to browse through help and support forums for Nikon Cameras. I'm sorry, but I'm as zapped as you are......hey, and nice knowing that you still DO live..:))

1. System restore your computer to a date before the date you installed the other digital camera. ( this would get the drivers for that camera out of your system folder automatically)

2. After the system restore is done , see if the Nikon 4500 still shows without a yellow question mark. If it doesnt show as installed, continue with a fresh installation of the camera/ software.

think this should work....
