Hi, I just got a new Sony Vaio(p4), 256MB, winxp system and have been using it for about 2 weeks, when i decide i want some old files off my iomega zip 100 parrallel port drive. So I connected the hardware and installed the software. After installation it tells me i must reboot and i havent been able to get into wnxp since. On startup i tried the "last know configuration", but that didnt work. It just basically keeps rebooting itself from there.

So i go to microsoft and download the winxp boot disks. On disk #2 i get the error, "File \ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded".

Ok so the question is, how do i get my computer back to the way it was before the zip drive installion. At least how do i get into dos on startup or uninstall the zip drive from dos? i cant do a winxp repair install without access to dos.

I am really pisssed that i was allowed to install it in the first place and not be able to correct it. BTW, how come manufacturers dont give you a copy of the f*cking os they preinstall on your comp, we pay enough for them. Any help would be appreciated

THERE IS NO DOS IN XP OR W2K OR NT4 OR NT3

If you have a Sony it should come with recovery CDs which are bootable and they should be used to fix problems, if the recovery CDs are pants then suggest you throw it back to Sony.

As far as I am aware you need a later version of Iomega software for XP, but then XP does usually recognize Zip drives without software, did you install the Iomega software??

yes i installed iomega software(found out later it was outdated). The Vaio didnt come with recovery cds but i was prompted to make one when i first booted it, which i did. I think this disk erases your hard drive and returns it to factory state, which i dont want.
i contacted sony, they said call iomega, who said go to microsoft.

i'm really paying for those 4 files i needed off my old zip drive.:(
