OS: WinXP H SR1
CPU/Ram: 2.4G 512 mb
Comment:

I have been unable to identify this virus/adware It is not sysu.exe adware. It is the most destructive Windows XP virus I have seen. It does at least the following:
Removes the START button.
Removes the ability to search for ALL FILES AND FOLDERS in Explorer.
Kills the ability to connect to Internet via modem or LAN.
Appears to remove users from user accounts.
Kills the task bar.
Kills the CTRL/ALT/ESC functionality.
If Windows is reloaded (not repaired) it destroys the new Windows.
The first indication of a problem is: Windows XP will not appear to boot and when it finally does, the task bar is missing as is START. Ir also appears to prevent opening System resources under Accessories and Services in Administrative resources. It kills Norton AV.

the only way a virus could come back after a re-install of an OS is if it infected the bios i believe and i know of no such virus. during an install the drive is re-partitioned and formatted any virus (and remember that viruses are programs)would be completely gone. when the drive is re-partitioned all information on that partition is gone permently.

No that it bull crap "excuse my language" it could be on the master boot record also.
I had the MSBLASTER.exe virus on my boot record and the only way i can get rid of it is the patch that microsoft gave us to download and the FIX IT tool. Sorry to come to the conclusion but u dont know.....viruses are unique in someways and yes ur rite some viruses do get deleted if you format and create a new partition. The first post he is correct there is virusus that are that bad.
Jon Ps:Yes i did format the master boot record!

Your existing MBR was not wiped out when you did a complete format of your drive, Jon? Curious.
