I did allot of work on my computer yesterday and I installed Win.XP Pro. XP is the only way to go, it's great. My problem is after installing XP I found out I do not have a modem. I had to put my recovery disk back in to get a modem to ask questions. I would like to install XP once I get a modem. How do I get a modem? thanks Hank
Hank, we need some more information. It appears from your post that you do have a modem in your computer but it may not be compatible with XP. What operating system are you using now - did you use an XP recovery disk or your prior operating system recovery disk? What type of computer are you using. Goto control panel - system -hardware - device manager - and double click on modem and let us know what is there. Someone may be able to help you then. JRF

Thanks JRF, I really am anxious to resolve this issue. XP grows on you and in the matter of an hour I need xp bad. I have a HP Pavalion 4550z 468 MHz 64 MB RAM 10 MBhard drive. I upgraded to 468 MHz 256 MB RAM and 100GBhard drive. I used western digital 100MB c drive Kingston RAM chips My operating system is recovery disk for HP with sound and video intergraded in the mother board my Modem is Rockwell HFC 56K Data Fax PCI Modem, which is in the recovery disk. I sure am glad to have you helping me I really would like to get rid of this HP recovery and instakk windows XP. Oh yea the OS is Windows XP Profesional, complete OS not the upgrade. thanks Hank
Hank, it appears you may need to download new modem drivers from HP to make your system compatible with XP. Check out the link below (copy & paste into your bowser) and download the drivers and save them to a second harddrive partition or to disk. After you reinstall XP, install the modem drivers and you should be good to go. The HP site indicates the drivers are Win 2000 drivers but they should be fine for XP. Good luck. If u can't get any drivers for your modem from the HP website then use the 'Fujitsu LB RW modem V.90 56K J' modem drivers. They are part of windows xp. You will have to manually install them from device manager, right click your modem and click 'update driver' then search for the driver i have named above.

I can't thank you guys enough, I downloaded HP Modem files and went to put them on a CD and found out my CD-Riter isn't working. The computer can't find it. I need to check things out a little more or plenty more. One thing is for sure I am going to run XP, it is the only way to go. SeanC this modem you are refering to is it about the same as my Rockwell? thank you guys Hank

If you say your modem is a Rockwell HCF then the driver I have told you about will work fine.
