i have a laptop with win xp on it...iv been using dsl for more than a year now sharing it with my friends through an smc router...now i wanted to replace the router and got a DLINK router ..my computer refuses to detect it...all my friends laptops work fine and i tried changing cable/changing the port but to no avail..the weird thing is that when i connect my laptop to the old router it detects it immediately and starts working fine..i dont know what the problem could be...
one thing i tried was. updating my ethernet card drivers and this also did not work.
another solution tried was ...changing the link & speed in configuring my intel 8255x ethernet card to 100mbps/full duplex from auto detect...now another thing happens that is my laptop connection light keeps flashing i.e it keeps connecting and disconnecting every 1 second...im really not sure wat i am supposed to do...
if anyone has any idea of what the problem might be please do let me know...thanks a lot

Chances are, your laptop is set to the wrong default gateway. Linksys uses a gateway of 192.168.0.100 for their routers, whereas many other companies use 192.168.0.1. If you have your ip settings manually entered into your laptop, check the default gateway and make sure it's set properly. Or, set your tcp/ip settings to use the dhcp features of the router.
