i just bought a new motherboard and processor and i cant get any hard drives to work with it. i have tryed uploading win 95,98, and xp and it does not work. i have a gigabyte k8ns pro and amd 64 3000+ processor. i get different errors like missing ntldr and windows has detected a problem so is shutting it down, and not enough memory to load windows. if anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Did you install the hard drive and format it or was there already an operating system on the drive?

Is there any data on the drive that you need to save before running a re-format and install?

How does the setup look in BIOS? Are things where and how you expected? I'd hope that was a first check, but have to ask.

I take that to be a guess. Obviously you have a failure somewhere. I'd suspect it is mechanical. Have you had someone else look at your assembly work? Having attempted three different operating systems wit no success tells me that it is not the hard drive but closer to the motherboard. RAM or cable or something like that.

You have too much ram to instal either 95 or 98. Neither of those operating systems can address more than 512mb ram.

The ntldr error suggests the install was over an existing Windows installation. Be sure to reformat before reinstalling.

Other things to try before installing:

- set the BIOS to 'Default' rather than Optimal. Once the install goes, then you can use the Optimal setting.
- remove the network, sound, and any other pci cards that aren't needed for the initial install; then later add those one at a time.
- remove any peripheral devices (printer, scanner, external drives etc.
