I have Comapq Presario X1000 (Intel Centrino) laptop and i am trying to configure new Optical Mouse (Packard Bell)with my laptop. I have installed the driver software properly (3 button) and i have charged the mouse battery for 8 hours as recommended. I have restarted the system and plugged-in the USB key and now i can see the flashing green light and i have clicked the bottom tinny black buttons of mouse and USB key(USB key is flasing on-off green light), but i can not see any changes in mouse pointer by moving it.
I have tried to connect the mouse with USB extension cable as well but still its not working.
My touchpad is working and i tried to access external mouse after disabling touchpad, but there is no luck.
Any body can suggest what could be the reason its not working. Any help would be appriciated.
Thanks in advance.

In rare situations a new pc will ship with the usb port disabled in BIOS. If you have not used a usb device on your laptop you may want to have a look in the BIOS to see if the usb port(s) are disabled.
Also, I assume that this is a wireless mouse. Can you see the laser looking red light from under the mouse itself? Make sure that there is nothing blocking the path between the mouse and the usb key.
Lastly, have a look in your device manager to see if there are any diiver problems highlighted. The optical mice are usually listed under "Human Interface Devices (HID)".
Let us know how you do.
