Hope this is the right Forum :)
I'm going to upgrade to a new Motherboard on the weekend, I have XP pro on one HD and another HD just for storage.
Do I have to do clean installation when I hook the HD's up to the new Board, or can I just use the repair function under XP.
I appreciate all the info I can get on this subject.
Thanks

i would recommend a fresh install, but if you don't want to, you can try using the repair function. the reason for the fresh install is that the drivers for the motherboard need to be loaded and it would be a good idea to reinstall XP for reliability reasons.

Thanks for the fast response!
Kinda figured that would be the best.
I'll start copying all my important data to that second HD.
Thank you George!

Actually what worked for me was to install XP over itself this keeps your current files but overwrites WIndows, your custom settings will also be lost

if try to install xp on top of xp, there is a much higher risk of your operating system crashing on you like every 5 minutes. do it right the first time and save yourself the hassle. for some people installing xp over the older version works, but some motherboards are tricky. go with the way that works alomst 100 percent.
