Just put a new motherboard and chip in the box and connected my old hard drive to it with xp pro on. XP Pro not booting up presumably because of the drivers for the new motherboard - it just tries to boot for a few seconds and it goes back to the POST screen. Anyway around this without reformatting? It wont go to safe mode or anything...... thanks people.

You can't swap the board & use the old installation of XP...as you found out, it won't work. You can usually do a "repair install" rather than reformatting.

Run a Repair install.

And if that doesn't work plan on a full install.

I've done it successfuly once but on that occasion I used Device Manager to uninstall just about everything I could BEFORE the changeout.
Apparently I'm told, having a corporate version of XP also helps ;<))
