Hi, I hope you can help me.I recently purchased a Sony DVD Handycam, Model DCR-DVD755E.
After loading the software disc, I connected the camera as instructed via a USB.2 socket. The "New Hardware Detected" balloon appeared and I proceeded to initialize the camera for the first time. The Microsoft window entitled "New Hardware Wizard" appeared on the screen and the small flashlight icon began swaying from left to right. This continued on for ages, cup of coffee time etc, and still no further action. I attempted to click 'back' but no action. I attempted to close the window by clicking on the white 'x' on the red background, no reaction. I then hit CTRL + ALT + Delete. That window indicated the "New Hardware Wizard" was not responding. I then deleted it.
On some occasions the screen just froze. I have deleted the new software and reloaded it 4 times. I have searched for viruses and I have defraged.
Since this episode, I purchased a Canon Picture Printer (postcard size) and this loaded via the "New Hardware Wizard" without a hitch.
I returned the camera to the store of purchase and the guy there indicated it would be Norton Firewall causing the problem. I explained that I did not have NOrton but he insisted I would find it there and delete it from Programs.
I returned home and searched for Norton, no norton. The retailer was adamant that it would be a firewall problem.
I have a number of anti-spyware and anti-virus software, (maybe too many), and these are as follows: Ad-Ware SE Personal; AVG (w'out Firewall option); Spyware Doctor; CCleaner; Spybot;
I hope you can help me.
HotWombat.

Have you done all your spyware cleaning? Spyware would stop alot of things from functioning.
It could also have something to do with the latest critical updates.Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks
