New hard drive, no os reinstall

i want to buy a new hard drive and use it as a master. i want to keep the old as a slave. i dont want to reinstall the os. is it possible to move the os installation to the new one and use it as if nothing is different?

Yes. it is possible. The new drive may come with a software CD that contains the required cloning software. The last seagate drive I purchased did.

The instructions in the readme were very clear and easy to follow.

Yes. There are many free tools that will do this. Look for "Driving Imaging" or "Partition copying" tools. DriveImage XML, XXClone, and CloneZilla are just a few examples.

Make sure that you do a 'disk' copy/image. A 'partition' copy will not work, because it doesn't copy the Master Boot Record.
