Hey to everyone,
Win Xp will not recognize my external burner (its new). Please read on for in depth info.
I have a few issues I cannot resolve and need someones help. I just purchased an Iomega 40x12x48 CD-RW external burner. The software that comes with it (Hotburn) will not work on my computer. It has known issues (i.e. plasma.dll) I tried several approaches and it just won't work.
Next I tried Nero with the burner and I am pretty sure it will work if I could just get XP to recognize the burner. The burner is plugged in, power light is on and connected to a USB2.0 port. But Windows doesn't automatically recognize it. I tried rebooting, shutting down, etc. but nothing seems to work.I hope some can help me out with this.
Thanks alot.-Ryan

Ryan,
The software you use to burn with shouldn't matter at all. I use Nero and it's great software.
But lets get your device working first.
Does it show up in Windows Explorer?
If not, does it show up in Device Manager? (right-click "My Computer" > properties > Hardware (tab) > Device Manager > dvd/cdrom drives)
Is this your only CD drive?.. if not, does the original drive show up in Explorer?
If this is your only CD drive and it shows up in Device Manager but not in Explorer... first try this:
In Device Manager... right-click the cd drive in question and click "uninstall". Reboot and see if XP recognizes it on boot.
Then post back...
