Comment:

I recently purchased a new Dell system for my client and I was pretty excited; that is until the system failed the Genuine Windows Validation. Right out of the box, the system failed.

Has anyone seen this error? If so, is it becoming a common issue?

Does this error reflect the CD that came with the system, and would a new cd need to be purchased with a valid lic?

Please respond back. Comments are wanted.

If you can find a phone, call Dell.

They will explain things too you, I am sure.

However; MS posted a step-by-step proccess to remove the notice on thier web too.

Good suggestion, but i do not have time to sit in the office on the phone. Already started to reinstall OS. Will call Dell if second round ends like the first.

Thanx.

Damn Windows and their stupid validation!
They only make it hard to the legal user and the pirates "fix" theirs...

I recently formatted and reinstalled a friend's Dell PC. It came with the Win XP Home CD.

The thing didn't even ask me to 'Activate' it.

Later installed all critical updates, with no problems.

When I ran my Dell through WGA I provided the Key found on the sticker on the back of the case which is different than the OEM key in the PC's registry.

I did make the mistake on one of it's strings. I was inputting 8888 when it turned out to be 88B8 (3rd was a "B" not an 8). It then passed WGA just fine. A magnifying glass revealed my problem. On my third attempt I got it correct.
