Comment: Hi i just got myself a custom computer put it all together got the thing to start up raided my hard drives together with the drivers etc.. but when i go to install windows XP it gets to the part where it displays "new and improved windows" and says how much time is remaining etc.. it shuts down shortly after at the exact same time no matter what i do every time. I set up the raid in BIOS on Sata 3 and sata 5 (b0, b1). This is my comp basicallly... sorry if it's not clear enough on the detals plz if anyone has any experience i would be very glad to hear of it or try it ty in advance! https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/WishList/TemporaryWishList.asp?SltWishListNumber=&ItemList=&WishListTitle=

Reply: (edit)Did you follow instruction on setting up the RAID array? I am not sure, but I think you should be using adjacent SATA ports. From your post it sounds like you may be using the wrong ports. If you have 8 SATA ports I believe 4 are usually regular ports and 4 are OK for RAID.

Reply: (edit)When not using RAID you may need to set the harddrive to a non RAID setting in the BIOS. Read your manual. Are you installing with an original or copy of WinXP? You may have a bad copy.

Reply: (edit)In the manual it says "There are six serial ATA connectors on the motherboard that support RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 0+1 and JBOD configurations." so it doesn't specify if the group of 4 is for raid or not, instead it seems to say that all 6 are good for raiding. Also in the BIOS the only setting i see that could make it non-raid is to disable raid all together. I'll look in the manual some more after work and see if I can find something. My WinXP is brand new i just got it from newegg also its OEM (no idea what that means). thanks guys. :)

Reply: (edit)The various RAID configurations available on that board require varying numbers of disks. JBOD can probably use all the ports. I can't seem to get anything downloaded on the manufacturer's site. I think you need to use a pair for RAID 0 or 1. Although SATA has no Master/Slave settings One SATA controller serves Two ports.

Reply: (edit)I'm confused on the differences between RAID 0,1 JBOD and etc.. What one would i want to use for the hard drives i have, if i have them spanned that is, for gaming? Also Wouldn't my computer not detect the hard drive disks if i had them improperly raided, (happened when i didn't load drivers before installing windowsXP and just made me restart my comp by pressing F3) thanks again :)!

Reply: (edit)Update: When trying to install windows it now gets to "37 minutes remaining" and starts installing devices and shuts down half way through that which is still approximately the same time frame it shuts down usually, i'm going to see if there's some driver that the website has for me... though i got these drivers from the CD in which the mobo came with.
