I've bought a new copy of Windows XP pro because my windows key is no longer valid. I don't want to format the computer because I don't want to lose the other programs and data I have. Can you tell me what procedures do I need to follow to do it safely?
Something's not right with your story. Valid keys don't become invalid for no reason. If you already have XP installed & it's been activated/validated, all you needed to do was call M$ to straighten things out. There are also plenty of "non-legal" ways around it. There was no reason to waste your money on a new copy...but what's done is done.
