I posted a while back about infecting my computer with spyware and having to reformat. My internet was extremely slow due to this spyware, but the computer functioned fine. It just so happened, that I got a really great deal on a brand new computer and was able to trade the old one in. I saved a bunch of my documents and transfered everything over. I installed Spyblaster, Spybot and Norton System Works and am fully protected. I even ran some checks to make sure I didn't transfer any infections over from the old computer. Everything is clean. Guess what?!? My internet is still just as slow as it was on the old computer. Webpages not loading, etc. What is going on?! Should I be contacting my internet serivce provider? Any suggestions?

sickboy_xl, my thought is a Trojan. A trojan can place calls to websites 'calling home' which cause other legitimate ops to be buffered and delayed. Be aware that a virus and a Trojan are similar, but not the same. Many times, an AV detects one it can't clean , other times, it gets missed entirely.
If you need to clean one, A² can do the job and you can get it free @:

among other places.
If it turns out that you need to use it, be sure to update prior to running. They just released a new update recently and it changes all the time. Things are in a constant state of flux.

Not a trojan.

Try a different network cable, check your router, and modem...then call your ISP.

What is that supposed to mean? Do you have a better suggestion for anti-virus software? I have used Norton for the past 4 years and have never had a a problem with it. It seems to be working fine.

Network cable, router and modem are fine. And it doesn't look like a trojan. I will contact my ISP and spend an hour and a half on the phone with morons now. I hope they can help me out here...not likely but it's the only other thing i can think of.

I'd agree with whodat too. I use the free AVG antivirus and it not only works great, but gets high remarks from various websites.

Norton???.....lol... Hey, if you like it....that's all that matters. There are beached whales more leaner than Norton.

Have fun...

I have a hard time trusting companies giving away virus and spyware protection software for free.
