so i recently recieved my new computer with XP and it comes with windows messenger but i want to upgrade to the ever popular msn messenger except when i download it the original windows messenger stays and continues to log me in everytime i connect. i really am not fond of having 2 messengers

run this command in start/run ... type: RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection%windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Under tools>options>general of Windows Messenger untick the Auto run when i log on to windows box

You can uninstall it but for the life of me I can't find the how to...check back for more replies

see my main problem is that i don't particularly want an old msn program on my computer...can you be more specific maybe snipes?...and are thier any repocusions to removing a program that came with my windows xp?

no theres no problem .. believe me u can execute the command it will only remove the old msn then ull be able to have onlye the new one .. thats a 100% sure :))))))))))
i woulnt make joke about run command ! ..
do it ..then reboot .. youll see . !

Snipes is right that is a safe procedure, I have done it on two of my computers with no problems.

use the run command listed before.. The old version that is on your computer is bundled with OE and IE. The command listed above removes that..

THen when you download the new version you'll only have one..

Psst: were you able to get your quicklaunch for your desktip icon back?

If all else fails... C:\ format
