i bought a new PC recently, the thing does NOT stay on for an extended period of time, without randomly rebooting with a frequency that would increase the longer i used the machine (even AFTER disabling the automatic restart feature in XP). the system also freezes a lot, even during bootup.
i have made the store build me an entirely new machine, but the problem remains the same. and have i personally attempted to update all the drivers.
any ideas for what is going on here?
specs: intel pentium 4 CPU 1.60 GHz (1.59 Ghz), 256 MB RAM, windows xp, ATI Radeon VE DDR 64 MB, Samsung CDR/RW SW-224B (24-10-40), ACPI Uniprocessor PC, RealTek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC. (already uninstalled easy cd creator, nothing else on the computer except ms works software, which i havent used)
thanks.

At the top of this web page,
in the box type:
rebootingselect XP in the next box.
then click GO SEARCH.

Check that your fan is working correctly and not causing an overheat reboot. Bad RAM could cause this, if more than one module remove one and try and vice versa.

I don't know but I wonder if that place really built you an "entirely" different machine or only swapped some parts in it. If you've disabled automatic restart then problem is probably hardware related and the first culprits you look at are the power supply and the CPU (remove side panel and make sure CPU fan is working). Personally I'd take the thing back and demand a refund and go somewhere else or build your own.

what they initially did is swapped parts.
this time they told me they built an entirely different system, but i cant tell, the case is different though (but that doesnt mean anything)
i think im going to return and demand a refund. it's been like a month of bulls---.
ive checked the fan, disabled the cdr/rw, changed ram, done just about everything, read all of the previous messages in this forum on the topic, and i cant figure it out.
you're right. eff it.
