Greetings, I have a "Hard Wire" type Linksys Router, for My Cable;connecting 3 pc's. Recently,I lost Internet access.Several things have been tried, including (Uninstalling the "ethernet")through the Device Manager, restarting the pc, to have XP Find it etc.NO GO! But...., running the cable directly from the Cable Modem {bypassing the router},to one particular pc<this one>, CONNECTS immediately!? Doing the same Direct connect to any of the other 2 pc's results in no connection. I even found and ran the Linksys install cd, to no avail....any ideas?? Thanks -Ed

If this is happening on all three PC's, it's not a problem at the PC level, but at the router itself.

Can you ping the router from all three computers? From a command prompt, type: "ping 192.168.1.1", then press Enter.

Are the PC's receiving valid IP addresses from the router? From a command prompt type: "ipconfig /all". A valid IP address would be in the "192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.255" range.

Have you tried resetting the router? Sometimes, all you need to do is unplug it from the power for a few minutes, then power it back up. Otherwise, there may be a reset switch (accessible through a small hole at the back of the router). After resetting, reboot all three PC's.

Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

Q? Are you rebooting the router & Modem between attempts to connect? In my experience it sometimes helps to power down each component then change the connections then power up again in order: Modem>Router>PC
or if bypassing the router do a power reboot of the modem and each PC in turn.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

Grretings All,
Thank You Sci-Guy and Richard59,I unplugged both Router and Modem power and cables for a few minutes, then Re-powered all back on, I'm back in Business! All are working fine. Tell me why, the smarter I "THINK" I am, the simpler things continue to stump me?.

Thank You Both.......-ed
