networking WinXP Home and Win98

There is problem with networking between XP Home and Win98. Sometimes both computer can see each other and sometimes not. I'm using DSL gateway and internet is working OK on both computers.

You need to have the XP [Gateway] running before the 98 system boots up.

Have you set the
IP to: 192.168.0.1 and
Subnet to: 255.255.255.0
on the Gateway [XP]

and
IP to: 192.168.0.2 and
Subnet to: 255.255.255.0
on the 98 system?
