I was just wondering if you can have more than one network setup on your computer at the same time in Windows XP? I had a simple PPP network going between my 2 desktop computers at home and my laptop (all XP). I'd bring my laptop into work, and I decided to save myself some hassle over burning things to CD in order to transfer it from and to the computers in my office and my laptop. I decided to setup a network between the office computers (all XP) and my laptop. For my laptop, this would be the second network installed. It worked fine, but when I got home and tried to connect my laptop to my other home PC, neither one would recognize each other. Is this because only one network can be installed on a computer at the same time, and I overwrote the home one on my laptop with the work one?

I doubt very seriously if you had a PPP network connection at home, PPP is a dial-up(phone line) protocol.
Maybe a TCP/IP?

What you need is to set your LAN connection in XP to get IP addresses and DNS server automatically using DHCP. Then you can move between networks with no problems, assuming they provide DHCP support.

Rule #2: There is no such thing as a good computer.

In XP there's an alternate IP tab for a second network setup. I'm writing this from my Win2k PC right now so I'm unable to provide specifics on how to get to that tab. Maybe someone else currently using XP can assist.

I quote from the HELP and SUPPORT, this is on your start menu..........

"
Network Bridge

Network Bridge simplifies the setup and configuration of small networks with mixed network media types, such as Ethernet, home phoneline network adapter (HPNA), wireless, and IEEE 1394 devices. Each media type creates its own network segment. You can create a single subnet for the entire home or small office network by using Network Bridge across mixed media segments.

When the Network Setup Wizard is run, it detects if there are multiple network adapters installed in the computer. It then asks if you want to create the Network Bridge. Network adapters that are connected to the Internet, such as an Ethernet adapter connected to an external DSL or cable modem, should not be added to the Network Bridge.
