I have two computers on a network, one with XP and one with 98SE. They can see and access each other's shared files, but when I'm on the XP computer and I try to DO something with the files on the 98SE computer, such as move, copy, or delete, it goes really slowly and takes about 30 seconds to do it...anyone know what the problem is?

what kind of nics (network Interface Cards) are you using? Better eyt, what speeds can they run at. are they 10/100 or just 10 based T cards.
Check your hub.
Another question what file format did you go with for XP. NTFS or FAT32?it its NTFS, thats your problem right there. XP's natural settings are to work with NTFS. so working with fat32, is the problem. It has to do some extra thinking.
Anotehr thing to try. Do you know how to make a patch cable. because if you are using a hub, and only connecting 2 computers, you don't really need a hub. that would more tehn likely slow things down. Go buy a patch cable and connect from one nic to the other.
Also trying matching protocols. Use the same ones.
well hope that cn help.
good luck buddy.

The only way I have found to fix this so far is not to create a custom account for the Win98SE. It works well as long as I don't have a user with the Win98 machines computer name in WinXP's use database. There's no guarantee this will work for you though. :p

im having a siimilar problem only i can't get them to do anything at all with each other. i took the disk from the xp and used it in the 98se but no luck. Im sure it's something simple that im just not doing but right now i can't see the forest for the trees. Please help

i had a similar problem on a office network this should help
