I have my two home computers networked in my house. The computer I am on most of the time is the server, and im having problems getting the server to connect to other computers ( to share files, or host an internet IP game) This is becoming a real annoyance and any help would be appreciated.

Do you follow "new connection" instruction? Did you make the "networking diskette" and run it in all the others computers you have? Personnally, I don't have any problems with my others computers: two are running OS Win XP pro, and the third one is running Win98se.

Please be specific about your network. How do you connect the 2 computers? Through a crossover cable or hub or switch? Router?...

Ryan, This may not solve everyone's problem with networking, but this is one way to fix a problem if you can't connect to users' computer.

1. Click start button

2. Click "My Network Places"

3. Right-click and click on "Properties"

4. Right-click on "Local Area Connection" and click on "Properties"

5. click on the "Authentication" tab

6. Uncheck "Enable network access control using IEEE 802.1X"

7. Click "OK"

Hopefully that should fix the problem. If it didn't then you have a different problem.

I have to agree with everyone, not too much information to work with, but if your problem is of a Password or authentication error, the post above should help out. give us more details on your setup. g'luck

Networking can be fussy - but - there is plenty of help here if you spell it out a bit more.

Are both 'puters running XP?
Are you using internet connection sharing from windows or a sharing application like Sygate?
Did you remember to name both computers WORKGROUP the same name?
Are the folders that you want to access on each computer actually marked as shared in their individual properties or were you just hoping Microsoft would let you share them in a user friendly way? NO offense :o)
Just Right CLick the folder and check the properties under sharing ..

Good luck

I probably didnt make that first post very clear to start with. One computer is running Windows ME, and the other is running XP. I have no trouble connecting the two computers, sharing files, printers and the like. The problem I DO have is connecting to OTHER peoples computers. If any of you know AIM theres an option on it to directly connect to another user. I cant do this when my computers are networked. My IP adress also comes out really funny when i look, an example (not the real one) would be 142.62.181 159.25.215 151. etc. Im thinking that maybe networking may have firewall aspects built in with it (?) but i dont know.
