Help! I have: Run the wizard on both computers, even run new cable for a network which worked for the first night, and now no longer works. Neither computer sees the other one now. Connecting through a hub. It worked before, what is going on now?

I would recommend for you to use NetBeu in order to accomplish this feat. Its easier, safer yet it might be slower and WINXP needs to be tweaked in order to get it working but it works afterwards all the time. Trust me you can't go wrong with netbeu

DO NOT INSTALL NETBEUI!!! It's Microsoft's attempt at a simple networking protocol and it sucks! TCP/IP is the standard and what everyone should be using. Now for some reason, Microsoft broke the rules of IP when they came out with XP and this problem I have seen on many people's PC's (I take software calls for Xerox and deal with networking a lot). If you have 2 computers on the same ip scheme (we'll say computer1 has ip of 192.168.0.1 and computer2 has ip of 192.168.0.2 and both have subnet of 255.255.255.0) you do not need to enter a gateway/router because they are on the same net. In previous versions of Windows if you put in the gateway/router, it will ignore it and not even attempt to send the ping over the router because it knows it can reach the other computer without a router. But with WindowsXP, for some reason it tries to access the router if you enter an ip address there, even if you don't have one on the network. This causes the computer to not be able to ping or communicate with the other computer. So if you have a small peer to peer network and they're on the same subnet, make sure you blank out the router/gateway. DO NOT PUT IN AN IP ADDRESS!!! Then you should be fine. Feel free to email me if you need any help.
