Networked printer - driver dilema

Comment:
I have a Windows 2000 Advanced Server PC and a new XP-based laptop.
My printer is attached to the Windows 2000 PC (referred to herafter as the Server) and when I first installed the printer as a networked printer on the XP laptop, it picked up the wrong drivers for it.
I now have the correct drivers, but the problem is XP keeps on picking up the original set of drivers - like it remembers them from the first attempt at adding the network printer.
I assume these are held in some hidden area on the hard drive somewhere - can anyone point me in the direction of where these "remembered" drivers might be lurking so I can get rid?

Uninstall all printers on the laptop and reboot. Then reinstall printer on server. Let windows select drivers.

I hope I understand your question correctly, but here goes anyway...
Usually the drivers on a network server or a printer server are on the server, thus the drivers do not have to be installed on every node on the domain. Make sure your computer is not defaulting to the drivers on the server. They may not even be on your harddrive.

The drivers on the server are sadly not XP compatible - I don't have the option to install XP drivers on the "Install additional drivers" button on the server.
I have tried removing the printer and re-adding it always picks up these other drivers as if from thin air - the first time it did ask me to locate the proper drivers but moron here selected the wrong ones hence the pickle.
