Hi all,
i have just networked my new xp pc to my old win98 computer via a crossover cable. The win98 computer can see the xp terminal and transfer files from and to the shared folders on it. however, the xp terminal can't see the win98 terminal in the 'my networking places' folder and therefore can't access it. Please help here as i am new to xp and don't know a great deal about networking.
if someone could shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated.

WOW. I have the exact same problem. emial me if you get an answer.

ALSO from my windows 98 computer I cant print to the printer that is set up to the xp computer.

ALSO one day it worked. for some reason I was fully able to access the 98 computer but as soon as I shut it down it couldnt see it again. this makes me believe its just a setting or a process that is messing it up.

Do you have another network connection to the XP machine. For example Broadband.
If so, make sure that you have renamed the network connections from the default settings.

Also, have you enabled file/print sharing on your 98 machine.

Could you be running a firewall on the 98 machine?

go thru' it all with Jo Helmig at:

http://www.helmig.com

He covers all flavours of M$ OS networking - basics upwards.

If still having problems after that - post back?
