just purchased a linksys wireless-g broadband router. I set up the router and the internet for both my desktop and notebook are working fine. However i am not able to share files between the 2 computers. I used the XP network set up wizard to setup a home network, both computers running xp. The desktop can see the notebook on the network however the notebook can't see the desktop. Can someone help me out please.
Thanks

Go to start/run and type in "cmd" without the qoutes on both machines. Type in ipconfig at the command prompt to get the IP of each machine. See if you can ping the laptops IP as well as the desktop. Also make sure you are not running a firewall. Either XP's built in or a software firewall. XP's built in firewall will prevent them from talking and a software firewall will have to have a rule configured to allow them to talk to one another.
Also double check all your network settings. Make sure file and print sharing is enabled. The drive is sharred, etc.
Also once you know the IP of the desktop go to start/run on the laptop and type this
//192.168.xxx.xxx
Of course you will replace the IP address with the proper one. If this works it will pop up a window display contents of the desktop.
These steps are just basic network trouble shooting but the best place to start.
