You have tell the card which wifi to connect to... There will be facility (part of the wifi card software) to scan the area for wifi networks, which will be listed accordingly. Then you identify the correct one (yours..) and tell the card to use that one.

I have an Acer laptop - but not to hand; will check what/where etc. on mine later this evening (very much later...) and get back to you with the typical route/approach for an Acer laptop.

Hopefully others will come across here and help you before-hand.

yes it is shown there, it was working but now the 2 lights that show that the cable is connected (the one near the plug, the green) are always on even if there is no cable connected, i think it has been damaged

Possibly uninstall, then re-install the NIC drivers (and the device itself)?

Is the protocol (presumably tcp/ip) still installed?

may offer you a few ideas...; certainly a reasonably logical approach to verifying the NIC is OK and then on from there?
