I am using a D-Link DI-604 router, Shaw Cybersurfer cable modem, WinXP with the latest update, Zonealarm Pro 6.0.667.000. There are two computers on my home network.
Everything works just fine until yesterday. All the sudden both of my computer cannot acquire a network IP from the router. (I cannot even access the router configuration page.) It just get something like 168.254.xxx.xxx instead of the usual 192.168.xxx.xxx. Hence, no internet and no local network.
I have tested my router at my friend's house, it works fine. The network card and the modem are working as well (I have tried to plug my computer directly to the modem and it works).
So, what could be the problem and how to resolve this issue?
Thanks in advance

skyduck, SWAG, is it possible you downloaded a nasty and it changed your IP settings (sorta like altering a homepage)?
HTH.

Try the "repair" function on the network interface cards.
The 168. you mean must be 169 I'd guess. That does mean that you are not getting new leases from the dhcp server.
Might have to go back to your friends and see if you mac address have been blocked in your routers setup maybe. Might have to restore the router back to factory settings?? I wouldn't think you have both computers with a virus but it can happen.

Yes, it was '169' instead and I have tried the 'repair' function but it did not work.
Now, I have managed to get the local network back but still no internet and I still cannot ping the router... this is frustrating...
