I use a Linksys BEFW 1154 Wireless router. I can ping all the computers on my home network and from all others using the ip address asigned by the router. However, i can't ping using the computers names... is that important?

One of my computers is access denied to the other computers even though it shows up in the network group (homeconnect). I tried setting up a whole different network with the default "mshome" (or what ever the microsoft default is), but the same problem occures.

I can see the "missing" computer in the group on the other computers but i cannot see the other computers from the denied computer.

Firewalls are turned off on all computers. All 'puters show up in the router setup pages with assigind ip's...

I have even tried deleteing all the settings in the connection, microsoft network, file and printer sharing and tcp/ip and setting up from scratch... still get the same result.

Hope someone has an answer for this... i'm almost ready to do a complete wipe on the denied 'puter and do a fres install of xp to see if i can get rid of theoffending setting...

thanks for any insights on this problem

Just out of curiosity,,, one of the operating systems wouldn't happen to have the same product key would it????

If not ,,, which protocol isn't installed that may be installed on another??

wep access enabled... ???

Networking in the Home Edition of Windows XP is peer-to-peer, not domain-based. In the absence of a list of domain names, file permissions are limited to local user names, and those names are unique for each computer.

Still curious to see what the issue might have been,,,,

Hope you find your answer !!!!

Have you tried the networking forum also??

I know what quacked is suggesting but even if true it should have no bearing on your problem.

IF they do share a key then it implies it's a Corporate edition which, by definition, is intended to be installed on multiple PC's !

Getting back to your problem;

This has been discussed here many times and there seem to be many are different solutions.

What I can bring to the party is that when I encountered this same problem I eventually solved it by creating a null password on the offending PC.

Even though I don't use any passwords going through the password changing procedure, first adding then removing a password, solved it.

Can't guarantee it will work for you but worth a try.
