net.exe & cmd.exe gone mad!

OS: XP Professional Ver. 2002
CPU/Ram: INTEL CELERON CPU 1.70GHz

The system starts loading net.exe and cmd.exe 10+ times (I checked when I hit alt + ctrl + del) by itself and I think it slows down my computer. But when I check back 5-7 minutes later, everything looks normal again...what's going on?
I usually just have trillian, winamp, winmx and IE running.

1st step , run a virus check from 1 or all of these .
