Hello, since today my pc/net has been doing something it never has done before.

Once or twice every 10 minutes my connection seems to go down for about 10 seconds.
At first i thought it was a problem with the game i was playing at the time because i kept getting disconnected every couple minutes.

I've tested some other games and again i got disconnected once or twice every 10 minutes. In that time my net is down (10 secs max) i can't connect to the net either.

I've called my provider twice now and they did things to stabilise my connection and basicly every possible sollution they know (not sure if they know all that much..),they gave me some software that checks my net and during the time my net goes down it says my net is just fine, i look at my modem and all lights are green, nothing out of the ordinary.

My provider also checked all information there and according to them my net should work just fine, their ping test went perfect, they couldn't see anything wrong so they thought it has to be a problem with my pc.

I'm out of solutions,resetted my modem,checked 10 times if i have the windows firewall activated,did 2 system restores,fixed errors in registry,did a full system virus scan,removed all spyware/adware.

I honestly am clueless what to do, so i am hoping anyone here could be so kind to give me some advice on how to fix this.
Have had this pc for 2 years now without any problems, haven't downloaded oor installed anything strange lately,it just popped up out of nowhere.

Only strange thing i can think of is my pc has been randomly shutting down since 1 week now, but that seems to have been fixed after i fixed all registry errors.(the net going down probs were already there before i fixed the errors in my registry keys)

I have a Packard bell intel pentium 4 pc
CPU 2.93 GHz
Windows XP
1024 mb ram
No firewall
Kaspersky antivirus 6.0

Hope i have given all the required information, i'm not what you would call knowledgable about pc's.

Are you running wireless connection or is it wired right into the router?

Err sorry don't know that much, best way i can answer is by describing what i have i suppose.

Don't have a router, have cable internet and there's a cable going from the modem straight into my pc.

Hope that helps.

Try disabling startup items under msconfig

start->run->msconfig ... selective startup -> uncheck Load Statup Items then try your game again . if this fixes it. its a 3rd party program if not just reply back

try this Start-> Run -> msconfig ... under here choose Selective startup, then go to the services tab and check the box Hide all microsoft services <- VERY IMPORTANT!!! then go back to the general tab and uncheck Load System Services and uncheck Load startup items.

Get an error when i try to uncheck Load System Services saying acces denied and says i may have to log onto an administrator account.

I have checked my account and it is the only account on my computer and it says it is an administrator account.

Hmmm. Bit late now maybe but I would have waited a day or two to make sure it wasn't some server issue. Sometimes even their tech services don't know when something is awry.

If you think the action taken killed off the net isn't it possible to reverse the process?

Even the Net going completely down could be a server problem.

A bad line coming into your house could cause that random loss of internet. I had 4 repair people out before they finally changed the line from pole to house. It cured my problems.........

Well mystery solved.. called isp again today this morning and they gave me the same crap..had to be my pc.
Later this day i had my uncle call who has a little more knowledge of this stuff than i do, and they told him they have been getting more reports like this since yesterday, but they refuse to give any information regarding THEIR problems.

The random pc shut downs still remain, but fortunatly i have been blessed with pc freaak family members, and my cousin will come over to take a look tomorrow.

I thank you all again for your wonderfull help, now please excuse me while i go bomb the closest office/building that belongs to my isp
