I have Nero version 5.5.9.0. Whilst it can copy CD's perfectly, whenever I compile a CD (either using only .wav files, or a combination of .wav .wmz .bmp .exe and .mpg) and subsequently burn it, whilst Nero goes through what I assume is the whole burning procedure the resultant CD will not register as anything but an empty CD. I have noticed that when compiling a CD and burning using the Nero Wizard the only option is Burn, I cannot Test and Burn, and when the CD has finished "burning" my RW does not eject and no finalising message comes up.
I have just attempted to burn a CD again, to double check that I had recorder the problem correctly. Nero started "burning" the CD despite the fact that my CDRW wasn't even turned on, and didn't appear to notice.
I use a Yamaha CRW21001X-VK. Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if it is just a suggestion to use a different software.

Sounds like Nero may be set to write to a virtual device instead of to your Yamaha, especially if it tells you that it's writing and your burner isn't spinning.
First check this - Click Recorder > Choose Recorder and make sure that your Yamaha is highlighted and not 'virtual device' or 'Image Recorder' If you don't see your specific drive listed, there may be a hardware issue, I use Nero 5572, a bit older than your version and it supports both my Yamaha 2100 and a newer 3200, so I don't think it's a drive support issue.
Secondly, make sure that your Yamaha is selected in Audio CDA options, click
File > New > Double Click the Audio CD Icon, click on the CDA Options Tab, and make sure that your Yamaha is listed and selected under 'Device'
Hope that helps.

Hi Clare,
Your problem can be a result of more than one problem in your system so it's hard to detect any one of them but here is the general tips for Nero and many Burning softwares that can solve alot of major problems in them:
(Please follow the following tips in step by step)
1) Look for any conflict you may find between devices by entering the "device manager" and try to solve it and then delete your Yamaha CDRW drivers from there and restart to let the windows to detect it again.2) Before Burning please remove any unnecessary programs can be working in the background using the task manager -> (Application and Processes) beacause those programs can cause a lack in memory and high CPU usage which interrupts the burning process.
3) Make a Defragment to your hard disk this will make it much faster infront the speed of the CD-Drive and also decrease the speed of the recording to 20X for instance (1x = 150 kb/s, 20x= 3 MB/s )
In the Nero:
4) Use the simulation process before burning this will give you the testing advantage before the actual burning and you can do this in the followin:
After starting the nero and choosing "start multisession disk" then "New".
A new ISO window will open, then choose the Data you want to copy, press the button which labeled "opens the Write-CD-Dialog." in the toolbar, now be sure that "simulation" and "buffer underrun protection" are checked and here you can also change the speed then press Write*(Optional)*
5) And to make the windows sets the nero process the head of other processes enter the task manager -> processes -> right click on the nero program and set the priority to a higher degree (Caution: don't make it to the higher point)
